Vancouver Lightning

May 22, 2015

The sky flashed tonight.
Indigo clouds
edged in yellow,
for a second,

gone.

Only silence.

I stood, air teasing skin,
watched ancient power dash
against darkness,
for a moment, alone.

A second,

gone.

Ancestral forests fade.
I return to chain links,
sodium,
the hiss of traffic.
The gods, the stillness, drift away.

Indoors,
snug in fleece and tea
I listen for the rain.

A second,
A second,

gone.
