A Propo of Nothing Much

January 16, 2015

It’s Canadian and a metal and historic, and therefore almost has something to do with my novel, here’s a nugget of native copper retrieved by the explorer Samuel Hearne. In 1771, so pretty much after the whole Northwest Passage/hunt for golden cities era.*

It’s now in the Natural History Museum in London. Here’s the sign that goes with it.

As I said, this is not really anything to do with my novel, or my writing, or anything. I took the photo simply because it was an interesting object** and freakin’ big piece of metal. Makes me wonder how much more metal Hearne was lugging around with him on his expedition.

* I say pretty much because the Franklin Expedition came later.

** Neither my first nor my last time.
